SHANA’S STORY: REB3L IS MY SANITY
REB3L IS MORE THAN A PHYSICAL TRANSFORMATION…IT’S A MENTAL TRANSFORMATION. IT’S MY SANITY, MY STRESS RELEASE, AND MY HAPPY PLACE!
Throughout my whole life, I’ve always loved to dance. From my living room as a little girl, to cheer in high school, to teaching ballroom in my 20’s. As I got older, I found it more difficult to stay in shape or find a place to dance that would give me the level of calorie burn I required to stay in shape.
In 2015, my family and I moved to Colorado. While my husband and I were searching around for our next gym, I discovered Groove! I was instantly drawn to the club-like feel of the class. I liked that the lights were low so no one could see me sweat! The music was so motivating.
THE REB3L CLASSES MADE ME FEEL GOOD ABOUT MYSELF, I FELT SEXY, AND I SAW CHANGES HAPPENING TO MY BODY THAT I HADN’T EXPERIENCED WITH OTHER GYM DANCE CLASSES. THIS WAS THE START OF MY REB3L ADDICTION.
It started as a gym class but quickly became my circle of friends which transformed into my REB3L family. Being new to the area, it was really helpful to have friends that enjoyed dancing as much as I did. Dancing Groove each week became something I looked forward to and I never wanted to miss a workout. My job was causing stress and if I didn’t go to class, my stress level would build. To compound that stress, I ended up losing both of my parent to cancer. They passed away within 7 month of each other. It was a very difficult time. I was way too young to have lost both parents. I could have easily slipped into a deep depression but I did my best to keep up with my REB3L classes as I knew exercise would make me feel better. Many times I wouldn’t feel like going, I would be in a depressed funk, but I would go anyway. I remember many times on my drive home, I would cry tears of thankfulness for how uplifted I felt after class.
I could breathe again.
Reb3l is my stress release, REB3L s my happy place, REB3L is my family. As REB3Ls, we are addicted to the adrenaline high and are bonded by the community.
I’ll be a REB3L for life!
